GOT ROOM FOR BETTER IDEAS? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday was one of those days where I got
to do one of my favorite things: brainstorm
with people about their ideas. There was a
long Skype chat with a serial entrepreneur
who has a wonderful new idea and an e-mail
conversation with a documentary-maker needing
to raise capital. Then there were numerous
shorter opportunities to answer questions,
pass along discoveries and spread as much
entrepreneurial spirit as possible. All in a
day's work and I can't imagine a better way
to spend my time.
Come to think of it, I can't remember a day this year when I wasn't amazed or delighted by an encounter with someone who is busily moving ahead with a dream. It's quite a contrast to the days when I was surrounded by coworkers who were bored or hostile or apathetic. Those attitudes simply don't show up in Joyfully Jobless land. I'm also reminded that getting to this happy, creative state involves taking action, asking for help and opening up to new possibilities. That's certainly what's going to be on deck at the rapidly approaching Follow Through Camp. I've been telling you about it for weeks, but thought you should hear what a camper from our last event had to say about that experience: I just wanted to give my perspective on Follow Through Camp for those who are thinking of attending the Twin Cities event. I went to the Dodge City one in May, solo, where it was 10 girls for every boy (me!) It truly was a life changing event. My wife and I have owned a mobile DJ service for 20 years, added three cameras for video taping weddings a few years ago, and I've hit the wall. But at Dodge I found my tribe! It's amazing to be able to speak in shorthand (don't wanna be a cubicle rat, etc), get your story out of the way, and then move forward with a wonderful, empathetic, and supportive group of folks who WANT TO HELP! What happens at Follow Through Camp? You'll find yourself gently pushed and prodded and praised. You'll be offered ideas and concepts about your life's calling that you may have never before considered. You'll get tools to recognize and overcome obstacles that keep you from accomplishing your goals. Best of all, you'll bond a tribe that is just an e-mail away from offering help when you're down. And they praise your victories as well! You'll also find yourself looking at possibilities for others, and offering them some ideas. You'll sometimes find out you're smarter than you think you are! Barbara and Alice are great. Barbara offers a lot of ideas for those who are stuck, and Alice is the taskmaster---giving you guidelines for getting on track with your ideas. I know anyone attending is going to get a lot out of this. You'll be meeting some of the coolest, smartest, most innovative and entrepreneurial (that's a big word, isn't it!) folks you've ever been around. And unlike old summer camp friends we made, THESE folks stay in touch! Good luck to all and welcome to our tribe/planet!! Tim Grover, Pleasant Hill, IA If you're planning to add some energy and momentum to your dreams by joining us for Follow Through Camp in Chaska, MN on September 11 & 12, don't forget that the Early Bird enrollment ends at midnight on August 15. You don't have to wait until the last moment to register, of course. The sooner the better because you're going to want to get started on your pre-camp homework. |

TWITTER FIND OF THE WEEK ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For years, I've been talking about the
amazing career of Julia Child who went on to
become one of the best-known and beloved
experts of our times. I always thought she was
particularly fascinating because everyone
seemed to know her, but she didn't even enter
our awareness (and living rooms) until late
middle age. Thanks to the current movie,
Julie and Julia, many others are
learning about her inspiring life for the
first time.
She's not the only one who found their calling after several false starts. When 11 Famous People Who Were in the Completely Wrong Career at Age 30 showed up on Twitter, I promptly started sharing it, as did many others who read it. In case it hasn't gotten to you yet, take a moment to see how many people didn't find their right livelihood until mid-life. Inspiring stuff.

READY TO GIVE UP BEING ANONYMOUS? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You've probably heard my favorite quote from
Sophia Loren when she was asked the secret of
her success. Without hesitation, she replied,
"I am successful because I was willing to
give up being anonymous."
If you're willing to do the same, my upcoming teleclasses are for you. The August trilogy launches on Thursday, the 20th with A Dozen Ways to Build Your Expert Status. The following Monday, August 24, Christine Gallagher guides us through Conversation Transformation and shows us how to use social networking to market our businesses. Then on Wednesday, August 26, I'll share lots of ideas in A Beginner's Guide to Getting Published. Can't attend in person? Sign up and you'll receive the audio download the day following the teleclass. And if you register for two or more teleclasses as the same time, you'll get a discount. |

I'M BLUSHING, DENVER ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you're a subscriber to Winning Ways
and live in Denver, you may have noticed that
I published different dates for my upcoming
seminar than the ones in the Colorado Free
University catalog. It's a long story, but I
am the one who erred. So the proper dates are
September 18 & 19. In addition to Making a
Living Without a Job and Establish
Yourself as an Expert, I'll also be doing
a newish seminar, Cheap Tricks: Marketing
on a Shoestring. Love to see you there.
